In a study with University of Oklahoma, subjects took Capsiplex or a placebo before exercising.

CHILLI PEPPER RESEARCH – WHAT MAKES CAPSIPLEX SPORT HOT?!

The main ingredient in Capsiplex Sport is capsicum extract, containing capsaicinoids. Capsaicinoids are found in a number of natural plants but the most effective is from the chilli pepper, known as capsaicin.

Research scientists over the years have found a number of important benefits to the human body when taking capsaicinoids:

There have been many articles about the effectiveness of the ingredients in Capsiplex Sport, in particular chilli.

Richard Bloomer1, a researcher at the University of Memphis, published a white paper in 2003 where he talks about some of the clinical research on the effects of taking capsicum extract. He reports that results of trials showed an energy expenditure that was more than 200 calories higher than for people taking the placebo. Not only that, but the Capsimax beadlet meant there was no ‘burn’ from the chilli.

Research by Lejeune et al (2003)2 and Yoshioka et al (1998)3 showed an increase in fat oxidation when supplementing with red pepper.

Lim K et al (1997)4 found it increased carbohydrate oxidation in runners at rest and during exercise.

L-ARGININE

A study at the University of Maribor5 found L-arginine was effective in enhancing physical performance and improving muscle tolerance to hard work.

This supported a previous study by Campbell et. al6 who found l-arginine supplementation positively affected trained adult males bench press and peak power performance.

Although the body can make L-arginine, during hard exercise it becomes depleted because the body can’t replace it quickly enough.

CAFFEINE

American scientists Graham and Spriet7 found that studies on endurance athletes taking various doses of caffeine and placebos showed that caffeine had an effect on endurance.

However this was only the case at the lower doses. In fact, the high doses of caffeine had no effect on enhancing physical performance at all, and led to more adrenaline.

For this reason the amount of caffeine found in Capsiplex Sport is only the same amount as in a large cup of coffee – higher caffeine levels would not improve results but could increase side effects.

Many studies have also shown a relationship between caffeine and weight loss. A 6 month study of 167 participants8 found daily consumption of a supplement containing caffeine promoted body weight and fat reduction without significant side effects.

PIPERINE

Research into the active component of black pepper, piperine, found that it increases bioavailability – the proportion of a substance that is released into the body’s circulation. This applies to active compounds found in herbs as well as certain drugs9.
